About Image to Word

HogPDF uses OCR (optical character recognition) to read the text in a photo or screenshot, lets you correct it, then builds an editable Word document (.docx). It all runs in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.

How to extract text from an image

  1. 1

    Upload your image

Drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP image (up to 15 MB) onto the page or choose it from your device.

  2. 2

    Choose the language

Pick the language the text is written in, from English and Swahili to Arabic, Hindi and more.

  3. 3

    Extract the text

Click Extract text. The first run downloads the OCR engine and language data, so it can take a moment.

  4. 4

    Review and correct

OCR isn't perfect, so fix any mistakes in the text box before you continue.

  5. 5

Build and download your Word file

Confirm the text and we'll build a .docx you can edit and reuse.

What you can do

OCR in 14 languages

English, Swahili, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Arabic, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Amharic and Somali.

Correct before you export

Review the recognised text and fix mistakes before the Word file is built.

Photos and screenshots

Pull text out of photographed pages, receipts and screenshots.

An editable .docx

The recognised text is delivered as a normal Word document you can edit, copy and reuse.

Private by design

Your image stays in your browser. Only the OCR engine and language data are downloaded, never your file.

Nothing to install

Open the page, drop in a file and go. There's nothing to download, and you don't need an account.

Good to know

  • Accuracy depends on the image. Sharp, well-lit, straight-on photos of printed text work best.
  • Handwriting isn't recognised reliably.
  • The result is plain text in a Word file. Layout, tables and pictures from the image aren't recreated.
  • The first run downloads the OCR engine and language data, which takes a little longer.
  • For multi-page scanned PDFs, use Scanned Doc to Word.
  • Images up to 15 MB are supported.

Image to Word FAQ

How do I extract text from an image?
Upload your image, choose its language, click Extract text, correct any mistakes and build your Word file. It all runs in your browser.
Which languages are supported?
English, Swahili, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Arabic, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Amharic and Somali.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The text recognition runs in your browser. The only things downloaded are the OCR engine and the language data for the language you choose — never your file.
How accurate is the text recognition?
It's best on sharp, well-lit images of printed text. Blurry, skewed or low-contrast images produce more mistakes, which is why you can review and correct the text before exporting.
Can it read handwriting?
Not reliably. The OCR is designed for printed text.
Will the Word file keep the layout of the image?
No. You get the recognised text as plain text in a .docx. Layout, tables and pictures aren't recreated.
How large can the image be?
Up to 15 MB.
