About PDF to Word
HogPDF reads the text on each page of your PDF and rebuilds it as an editable Word document (.docx), right in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded.
How to convert a PDF to Word
- 1
Upload your PDF
Drop a PDF (up to 25 MB) onto the page or choose it from your device.
- 2
Convert to Word
Click Convert to Word. We read the text on every page, spot headings by their larger font size and keep the page breaks.
- 3
Download your .docx
Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and edit it like any other document.
What you get
Editable text
The text of your PDF becomes normal, editable Word text instead of fixed glyphs on a page.
Headings detected
Lines set in a noticeably larger font are turned into headings, so the document has a usable structure.
Page breaks kept
Each PDF page starts on a new page in the Word file, so the pagination stays familiar.
Private by design
The conversion runs in your browser. Your PDF isn't uploaded to a server.
Any text-based PDF
Works with PDFs made from Word, Google Docs, exports and reports — anything where the text is selectable.
Nothing to install
Open the page, drop in a file and go. There's nothing to download, and you don't need an account.
Good to know
- This converts the text of your PDF. Images, columns and exact fonts and spacing aren't recreated, so complex layouts will need tidying in Word.
- Tables come across as plain lines of text rather than Word tables.
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages with no text to read. Use Scanned Doc to Word, which runs OCR.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.
- Files up to 25 MB are supported.
PDF to Word FAQ
- How do I convert a PDF to Word without uploading it?
- Open this page, drop in your PDF and click Convert to Word. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file stays on your device the whole time.
- Will the formatting stay the same?
- Text, headings and page breaks carry over. Images, tables, columns, fonts and exact spacing don't, so a PDF with a complex layout will need some tidying in Word. If you only need to change a few words, our PDF editor keeps the original layout exactly.
- Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
- A scan is an image, so there's no text to extract. Use our Scanned Doc to Word tool instead, which reads the text with OCR.
- Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
- Unlock it first with our Unlock PDF tool by entering its password, then convert the unlocked copy.
- What do I need to open the result?
- The result is a standard .docx file, which opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.
- Do I need an account?
- You don't need an account. Preview the result free, then a download costs Ksh 10, or Ksh 5 with an account.
- How big can the PDF be?
- Up to 25 MB.
